Back-to-School Boost: Comcast Delivers 200 Supply-Filled Backpacks to Spokane Youth

As Spokane families prepare for the new school year, Comcast is stepping up to support students in meaningful ways. We recently donated 200 backpacks filled with essential school supplies to students supported by the American Indian Community Center. Each backpack was packed with paper, pens, pencils, and other classroom necessities—tools that help students start the year with confidence.
The effort was part of Project UP, Comcast’s $1 billion initiative to connect people to the internet, create digital opportunity, and build a future of unlimited possibilities.
Comcast also donated five brand-new laptops to the American Indian Community Center, helping expand access to technology for local students. These laptops will be used to support educational programs and digital learning opportunities, reinforcing Comcast’s commitment to closing the digital divide.

The donation event was powered by Team UP, Comcast’s employee volunteer program. Comcast employee volunteers gathered at the center to fill and distribute the backpacks. Their hands-on involvement reflects our deep-rooted dedication to community service and local engagement.
Our impact in Spokane goes beyond this event. We operate nearly 20 Lift Zones in Spokane County – safe, accessible spaces in neighborhood community centers that offer free Internet access for students and families. These zones are vital resources for remote learning, job searching, and staying connected.
Additionally, Comcast is making multi-million dollar investments to expand our fiber broadband and high-speed internet services to rural and underserved areas in Spokane County. Communities like Chattaroy, Cheney, Four Lakes, and Medical Lake are now gaining access to Comcast’s full suite of Xfinity and Comcast Business services, helping bridge the digital gap and bring reliable connectivity to more households.
Through these efforts, Comcast is not only supporting students today but also building a stronger, more connected Spokane for the future.
