Comcast Technician Awarded as a Lifesaving Hero by Red Cross

We are proud that Comcast Technician, Marcus Williams, a dedicated employee with more than 30 years of service, recently received a Red Cross Hero Award. Marcus was awarded for his heroic rescue of a Comcast customer in South Seattle.
When Marcus arrived at a customer’s home in South Seattle, he anticipated a routine appointment. Little did he know, this morning was about to take a dramatic turn.
The first sign that something was not right was when he rang the doorbell, and no one answered despite it being the time of the scheduled service. Friends of the customer were also outside, though, and concerned, so they were able to unlock the door to the home.
Once inside, Marcus discovered the customer was having a medical emergency. He immediately called 911 and assessed the situation. Marcus needed to perform CPR. He drew on his experience of being professionally trained and certified in CPR as part of his Comcast safety training.
As Marcus continued to perform CPR, the sound of approaching sirens brought a wave of relief. It was a harrowing experience, but he knew he had done everything he could to help the customer until the paramedics arrived.
Because of Marcus’ swift action, the customer was given the crucial time he needed to make it until paramedics arrived. This timely intervention significantly increased the customer’s chances of survival.
The Red Cross Hero Awards honor ordinary people who show extraordinary courage and make an impact in the lives of others through their bravery, dedication, and humanitarian service. This year’s event, the 27th annual, raised more than $300,000 to support local Red Cross programs and services.
