2024 in Review: Connecting Communities and Driving Innovation with Xfinity and Comcast in Washington

The letters PNW over the Puget Sound.

Across Washington, 2024 has been a big year, and that’s true for us at Comcast. We’ve expanded our network to new areas, introduced new products, engaged more local businesses, and partnered with our community to bridge the digital divide, all to connect customers to what they love. Read on for some of the highlights from an impactful 2024:

Expanding Our Reliable, Fast and Secure Network in Washington

This year, we brought Xfinity and Comcast Business services to thousands more residents and businesses in Washington for the first time through network expansions. These expansion projects enhance digital infrastructure, promote economic growth, and position residents and local businesses for success in an increasingly digital world.

Some of these projects in Washington include:

  • We’re expanding the availability of reliable, high-speed, symmetrical Internet in the City of Medical Lake, enhancing digital infrastructure, promoting economic growth, and positioning residents and local businesses for success in an increasingly digital world. Comcast is constructing the infrastructure to connect 1,600 Medical Lake homes and businesses to this fiber network for the first time.
  • Our construction team started our expansion to bring our next-generation network to Key Peninsula, Washington. We activated service for the first customers in the area and will build out to more than 500 homes and businesses.
  • We began construction in September to make our fast and reliable fiber-rich network available to hundreds of rural Clark County homes and businesses. Construction is expected to continue through the summer of 2025, and we’re committed to ensuring that more than 500 homes and businesses in the project area will have the foundational next-generation network in place to introduce new multi-gigabit Internet options.

In the last three years, we’ve invested $1.1 billion to expand and enhance our network technology and infrastructure in Washington.

Enhancing the Value and Innovation of Our Products

In 2024, we’ve added innovative features and options to our mobile, Internet, and entertainment offerings.

Xfinity Mobile and Comcast Business Mobile continue to offer some of the lowest prices on the market, with residential customers saving up to 50% on their wireless bills when they switch from “the Big Three.” In addition to savings, we introduced WiFi Boost this year, which delivers speeds of up to 1 Gigabit per second when customers connect to millions of Xfinity WiFi hotspots.

We launched Xfinity StreamSaver, a bundle of Peacock, Netflix, and Apple TV+ that delivers savings of over 30% annually. By bringing these premium streaming services together for the first time, Xfinity is making it easy for customers to enjoy exceptional entertainment, including thousands of hours of live sports, from the best streaming apps at an unparalleled value.

We also introduced NOW, a brand of quality, low-cost Internet, mobile, and streaming TV products that customers can purchase month-to-month, whenever they want. Backed by the Xfinity network, NOW products feature all-in pricing, no contracts, and no credit checks.

For Internet customers, we increased speeds at no additional cost – something we’ve done every year for the past 20 years – making it easier to do more like video calling with friends, gaming, or streaming a movie with the family.

With Xfinity Store openings in Issaquah and Spokane, adding to nearly 40 retail locations throughout Washington, there are even more places to meet our team of local experts, ask questions, and experience our products and services.

Building a Future of Unlimited Possibilities in Our Communities

Numerous organizations in Washington are working hard to increase Internet adoption and digital skills in our communities. Through Project UP, our $1 billion commitment to advance digital equity, we’ve partnered with several to help build a future of unlimited possibilities, including Asian Counseling & Referral Service, Boys & Girls Clubs of Snohomish County, Boys & Girls Clubs of South Puget Sound, Easterseals Washington, El Centro de la Raza, Evergreen Goodwill, Goodwill Olympics & Rainier Region, Operation Military Family, Paralyzed Veterans of America Northwest, YWCA Seattle – King – Snohomish and more.

These trusted community organizations are training people to access the Internet, use devices, and build digital skills. They also help income-constrained individuals and households sign up for low-cost, high-speed broadband through Internet Essentials.

Recognizing Our People

We take great pride in celebrating the remarkable actions of our Comcast technicians when they rise to the occasion in challenging situations. Our technicians are an integral part of the communities they serve, often going above and beyond their day-to-day responsibilities to help those in need. Some of the heroic acts this year included:

  • While driving north along Highway 2, Comcast Senior Residential Technician Andrew McFarlain witnessed a smoking pickup truck on the side of the road. The driver was frantically throwing handfuls of dirt beneath the truck, attempting to extinguish a growing blaze. Andrew, driving a Comcast truck, pulled over to assess the situation, recognizing the urgent need for a fire extinguisher. With the driver’s permission, he crawled underneath the burning pickup to spray the fire near the oil pan, which quickly got the blaze under control.
  • Comcast Technician Marcus Williams arrived at a customer’s home in South Seattle for what he thought would be a typical appointment. Once inside, Marcus discovered the customer was having a medical emergency. Marcus successfully performed CPR while paramedics made their way to the customer’s home. It was a harrowing experience, but he could do everything he could to help the customer until paramedics arrived. Because of Marcus’ swift action, the customer was given the crucial time he needed to make it until paramedics arrived.

Our employees also volunteered in their communities with Team UP, our national employee volunteer program. Most recently, Comcast employee volunteers pitched in this holiday season to make a meaningful impact in the lives of nearly 300 Boys & Girls Club kids and their families, putting together a magical Holiday Meal night at the Everett Snohomish Boys & Girls Club. Dozens of Comcast volunteers worked together to put together a special night with a holiday meal, exciting entertainment, and hundreds of take-home meals distributed the next day.

Looking Ahead

We’re hard at work preparing to bring customers even more of what they love in 2025.
