Comcast is contributing $100,000 to two organizations that are assisting those significantly impacted by the global health crisis – the city of Seattle’s Small Business Stabilization Fund and The United Way of King County Community Relief Fund.
The Seattle Small Business Stabilization Fund
The city of Seattle recently announced the creation of the Small Business Stabilization fund to aid businesses in the greater Seattle area. This fund provides working capital grants in amounts up to $10,000 to qualifying small businesses with low-income owners that are located in neighborhoods at high risk for displacement. Grants may be used to cover the day-to-day operating expenses of the business, such as payroll or losses due to destabilizing events.
“At the City, we’re doing everything we can locally to support our small businesses and workers during this unprecedented moment in history. Working together in the early days of this crisis, we quickly created this $2.5 million Small Business Stabilization Fund, which has become a model for cities across our country. With nearly 9,000 small businesses applying to the first round of the Stabilization Fund, it’s clear that the need far outweighs what the City can provide to our small businesses,” said Seattle Mayor Jenny A. Durkan. “I am grateful to Comcast for their commitment to help fund further rounds of the Stabilization Fund and support the small businesses that make Seattle the best city in the country. I urge all those who are able to support future rounds of this fund, and also support our small businesses by ordering pickup, delivery, or shopping online during this unprecedented time.”

The United Way Community Relief Fund
Comcast also is contributing to The United Way Community Relief Fund, which is designed to help people have immediate access to food, rental assistance and the support they need. With work hours being cut and employees being laid off, many people are finding themselves concerned about how they’re going to pay rent. The United Way of King County seeks to keep people housed through emergency rent assistance.
“This generous donation will go a long way to help our struggling neighbors and community members stay in their homes and put food on the table,” said Lauren McGowan, senior director of ending homelessness at United Way of King County. “Our efforts to assist people in our region will continue for the foreseeable future. We look forward to a continued partnership with Comcast to enable us to provide as much assistance as we can during these hard times.”
