Supporting Kent Teachers as They Head Back to School

Kent teachers smile around a table.

As the new school year kicks off, teachers across the Kent School District are busy preparing their classrooms—and thanks to a generous donation from Comcast, 75 of them are getting a little extra help.

At a recent event held at Kent Laboratory Academy, Comcast teamed up with the Kent Schools Foundation to provide $150 Amazon gift cards to new teachers in the district. The goal? To ease the financial burden many educators face when stocking their classrooms with supplies.

According to the National Education Association, over 90% of teachers spend their own money on classroom essentials. Recognizing this challenge, Comcast stepped in to support those who are shaping the future of Kent’s students.

“Teachers are the heart of our communities who pave a way to bright futures for Kent School District students,” said Carla Carrell, Senior Director of External Affairs for Comcast’s Pacific Northwest Region.

“We hope these gift cards ease the transition into the classroom and show our appreciation for the incredible work they do.”

The Kent Schools Foundation echoed that sentiment, emphasizing the importance of supporting educators from day one.

“We’re honored to partner with Comcast to recognize Kent School District’s new teachers,” said Allyson Johnson, President of the Kent Schools Foundation.

“As we launch this new school year, let’s embrace it with optimism, curiosity, and a deep commitment to equity and excellence for all. We’re excited to see all that our teachers will accomplish—and we’re here to help them thrive.”

Founded in 2012, the Kent Schools Foundation is driven by a belief that every child deserves access to quality education, regardless of their background or zip code.

Governed by a volunteer board, the foundation works to strengthen public education through private support.
