It’s Olympia Weekend! Nationwide Exposure Through C-SPAN

Olympia Weekend is here! Comcast and C-SPAN partnered to produce a weekend’s worth of programming that allows for you to enjoy our state capitol from the comfort of your home.

The timing of it is a little unusual, since even a lot of people in Olympia are going to be watching a certain sporting event on Sunday afternoon. But the Olympia programs are a great alternative if you don’t follow football. If you do follow football, you can either set your DVR or enjoy www.cspan.org/LocalContent/Olympia (note: if you are reading this Friday, Jan. 31, that site might not be up yet)

Below is the programming that will air throughout this weekend:

Book TV Features:

BOOK TV Olympia Block: 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, on C-SPAN2 (Comcast Ch. 25)

  • Learn about the Marbled Murrelet and the litigation surrounding its habitat.
  • Hear author S.R. Martin, Jr. recount his families migration during the 1940’s from East Texas to San Francisco by way of Wyoming and Montana.
  • Learn about the maritime history of the Puget Sound from author and historian, Chuck Fowler author of “Tall Ships on Puget Sound.”
  • Tour the Special Collections of the Washington State Library
  • Learn about Washington State’s 2004 gubernatorial race between Dino Rossi and Christine Gregoire.
  • Hear about naturalist and explorer David Douglas, the namesake for the Douglas Fir Tree.

AHTV FEATURES

 AHTV Olympia Block: 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, on C-SPAN3 (Comcast Ch. 150)

  • Tour the Washington State Capitol Building 
  • Learn about the Boldt Decision, which secured Native American’s fishing rights on the Puget Sound in the 1970s.
  • Learn about naturalist and explorer David Douglas.
  • See the Murrow Brothers Exhibit at the State Capitol Museum.
  • Tour Taylor Shellfish and learn about the history of the Olympia Oyster.
  • Visit the Bigelow House, one of the oldest homes in Olympia.
  • Hear Governor Jay Inslee (D) talk about the state’s economy and the impact of recent legislation.
  • See the Grand Coulee to Grunge Exhibit at the Washington State Capitol.
