Lending a Helping Van for CA Wildfire Victims

wifi van

We were happy to send our Xfinity WiFi hotspot van down to California to provide connectivity to Californians displaced by the wildfires.

The wildfires in California’s Butte County continue to cause damage and are some of the deadliest and most destructive in California history. The Washington Region had an idea to offer immediate assistance with our Xfinity WiFi van. The van, which is essentially a hotspot on wheels, calls Seattle home and is the only one of its kind in the Western United States.

Toby Hooker, Technical Operations Supervisor, in our Seattle office volunteered to drive the van from Seattle to Chico, CA on Monday of last week, a ten plus hour road trip.

After assessing where the greatest need was, the WiFi van set up shop at a Walmart in Chico. This location is one of the temporary evacuation sites created for residents of nearby Paradise, where most citizens experienced a total loss of homes and property.

Toby worked last week on training members of the California team to use the WiFi van and it will stay in California to help the members of the community during this trying time.

Our entire company has also taken measures to help these communities affected by the devastating California wildfires.
