People with Limited Mobility, Memory Challenges and Intellectual Disabilities will Receive Support and Services from new Technology Achievement Centers in King and Kitsap Counties

Since 2011, the Comcast NBCUniversal Assistive Technology Grant Fund has empowered an estimated 50,000 Americans living with disabilities by providing expanded assistive technology training and services. Easterseals Washington is one of ten Easterseals affiliates across the country selected to receive a grant from the Comcast Foundation as part of the Comcast NBCUniversal Assistive Technology Grant Fund.

The grants that can help people like Anne from Bremerton, Washington. “My daughter, Anne, is 47 years old and a participant at the Gateway Adult Service center in Bremerton,” shared Lanse Richardson, Easterseals Washington Board Member and participant parent.

“Her ongoing progress is a testament to Easterseals Washington’s commitment to empowering people with disabilities to reach their full potential every day. We thank Comcast NBCUniversal for its continued support of Easterseals and people with disabilities and their investment in assistive technology solutions.”

Today, Easterseals Washington announced that it has received a $20,000 grant from the Comcast Foundation as part of the Comcast NBCUniversal Assistive Technology Grant Fund. This support will expand the service providers Technology Achievement Center (TAC) initiatives for adults and older adults with disabilities, including autism and Alzheimer’s disease. Easterseals Washington will open two new TAC’s in Bremerton and Des Moines, which will provide support and services to hundreds of adults and seniors with limited mobility, memory challenges and intellectual disabilities.

“Easterseals Washington improves the lives of our local residents with limited mobility, member challenges and intellectual disabilities,” said Amy Lynch, Regional Senior Vice President of Comcast Washington. “We appreciate the opportunity to continue our relationship with Easterseals Washington through these new centers serving residents in King and Kitsap Counties.”

To date, Comcast NBCUniversal has provided nearly $35 million in cash and in-kind support to help Easterseals and to advance assistive technology solutions nationwide. Easterseals Washington is one of ten Easterseals affiliates across the country selected to receive a grant from the Comcast Foundation as part of the Comcast NBCUniversal Assistive Technology Grant Fund.

Established in 2011, this fund supports technology programs and services that benefit children and adults, including veterans, living with disabilities. These technologies can vary from braille-equipped handheld computer systems to augmentative communication devices and everything in between. The chosen affiliates excel in programs that provide support and services for people with disabilities.
