The unique history and friendly community of Centralia was recently featured on Comcast Neighborhoods. Although the town may be known for its premium outlet stores and central location between Seattle and Portland, this close-knit community is proud to share its landmarks and events that turn many visitors into regulars.

Built in 1861, the home of early settlers Joseph and Mary Borst has become a public attraction on the north bank of the Chehalis River. Offering free monthly tours of the stately mansion, the Borst Home gives Centralia visitors a glimpse into Northwest life in the 19th century.

The Olympic Club Hotel and Theatre also boasts the unique history of Centralia with a pub that was once owned by prohibition bootlegger Jack Sciutto. Whether it is the pub’s false-bottom barrels that were used to hide alcohol during prohibition, or the theatre that allows visitors to have some drinks while taking in a movie, the McMenamin’s owned Olympic Club is a one-of-a-kind 1920s experience.

The Centralia community is doing their part to preserve the intriguing and rich history of the city by restoring the splendor and décor of the 1930s Fox Theatre. Offering classic movie series like Grease and Citizen Kane, the Fox Theatre invites the community to be a part of its revival, even allowing you to purchase your own seat with a permanent donation plaque in a name of your choice!

Centralia hosts a fun Fourth of July celebration beginning in Borst Park with a free pancake breakfast with city council members, followed by a 4th of July parade, a destruction derby, and then a fantastic fireworks show. What was once known as the hub city of southwest Washington, Centralia has become a unique and small community for many to call home.
