Why are so many Washington techs heading to Houston to help restore service to customers? Here’s what one had to say:
“I feel the need to help out my colleagues, brothers and sisters in our company, as well as the customers who have lost so much.
“The work that we do helps everyone return to some sense of normalcy by being able to connect to the world outside of their devastated neighborhoods. Many people haven’t left their homes for days and have no connection to the outside world until we restore services.
“Even in the short time we’ve been on the streets of Houston, we have been thanked over and over again by everyone that we’ve come into contact with.”
So speaks Rick McLachlin, a Comcast network technician who is one of 11 techs from Washington thus far to go to Houston to volunteer in their storm recovery. The techs have been sharing photos on social media and with us of what they’ve seen. In these photos, you see the new trucks that awaited them when they arrived in Houston, as well as some of the incredible and unprecedented damage.
Our hearts go out to everyone in Houston and to our techs and their families who said goodbye for the two weeks they will be apart.
“I volunteer whenever there’s a natural disaster somewhere; I want to be able to make a difference,” says network tech Brian Farchette, who took these photos.
