Comcasters Welcome Everett Schoolchildren to Lynnwood Headquarters for Mentoring, Friendship

Check out the video and decide whether the children or the adults look happiest. We think you’ll agree they all look delighted to be there.

The red carpet only gets rolled out once a year in Lynnwood, the home of our Washington region corporate headquarters, for a group that’s always decked out for their first visit of the year in their best hats, boas and glasses. We recently hosted the annual kickoff of the annual Beyond School Walls program. Now in year five, it’s an event that both Comcast and the students in nearby Woodside Elementary School of Everett look forward to every year. You’ll see that in the video.

Beyond School Walls is a partnership between our local offices, the Comcast Foundation and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Snohomish County, where Comcast “Bigs” are matched with “Littles.” While the traditional role of a “Big” in the community-based program means time spent after work or on non-work days with their “Little,” Beyond School Walls brings the “Littles” to corporate offices. Twice a month, the “Littles” and “Bigs” spend time together eating lunch, talking, playing games or reading, among other activities.

“It is such an opportunity for our kids,” says Woodside Elementary Principal  Dr. Betty Cobbs. “As we prepare our kids for the future, it’s wonderful for them to have mentors that are here to support them along the way.”
