New PSAs support Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County

We’re starting to air Public Service Announcements as part of a new campaign on behalf of a longtime partner, the Boys and Girls Clubs of Thurston County. We asked Katya Miltimore, the group’s Resource Development Director, to share some information about the clubs with you. We’re happy to help get the word out about this group:

Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County is a youth development agency serving school-age youth 5-18 years old. Founded in 2001, four Club locations in Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater and Rochester now serve over 2,600 youth with the mission of inspiring and enabling youth to realize their greatness.

Programs such as Digital Connectors funded by the Comcast Foundation engage teens and young adults, ages 14-21, in leadership development, digital education, life skills management and community service. By learning and involving themselves in their respective communities, taking field trips and hearing from emerging leaders, youth are able to hone technical competencies and grasp lifelong principles that inspire educational advancement and workforce preparation. For more information about this and other programs available at Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County, please visit, or @BGCThurstonCo on Twitter.

This is a bit more about the PSA campaign we’re happy to support …

Boys & Girls Clubs’ Great Futures Campaign is redefining the opportunity equation for kids by elevating the critical role out-of-school time plays in a child’s chance to have a great future. Every day, 15 million kids leave school with no place to go, putting them at risk of being unsupervised, unguided and unsafe. As a leading advocate for youth, Boys & Girls Clubs want to ensure every child has access to a safe place after school and during the summer where they can build the knowledge, skills and behaviors to put them on the path to a great future.

Comcast’s donation of air time to deliver the message of the Great Futures campaign makes a significant difference to Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County by helping us provide information about the impact of our programs on Thurston County youth.  Comcast is our very important media partner, and through our combined efforts we will be able to educate our community about the significance of quality after-school programs for the success of our kids.

Through the Great Futures Campaign, we want to reach more kids in need during the out-of-school time and grow participation in our life-changing, outcome-driven programs for an even greater impact on kids and our country. Nationally, we’re implementing the following strategies:

o   We will increase membership and access to Clubs for kids who need a safe place to go after school and during the summer.

o   We’ll grow our life-changing, outcome-driven programs that are guiding youth to college–or career-readiness–developing good character and instilling healthy lifestyles.

o   Lastly, we’ll provide training and education resources for adult mentors, caregivers, parents, staff and volunteers to deliver a world-class out-of-school experience and ensure ongoing support for kids in need.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Thurston County’s mission is to inspire and enable youth to realize their greatness. We want today’s generation to be successful in school and in their adulthood; to be healthy and active; and to develop the character strength needed to become future leaders for our country. We believe there are three key areas to developing young people into well-rounded adults. Through the campaign, we seek to achieve the following:

o   Ensure successful transitions to middle and high school, and foster college or career readiness with 21st century skills.

o   Motivate kids to be healthy through nutrition and health education, more access to healthy foods, avoidance of risky behaviors and a lifelong commitment to fitness.

o   Engage youth in taking action in their community and world, promote resilience, build character strength, and develop the next generation of America’s leaders.
