Comcast Business today announced the expansion of its high-performance network, capable of bandwidth up to 10 Gigabits per second (Gbps), within the city of Aberdeen, Washington. Located in Grays County Harbor, Aberdeen is known as the Gateway to the Olympic Peninsula and perhaps best known as the hometown of Nirvana front man, Kurt Cobain. This expansion gives local companies access to a wide range of high-performance Ethernet, Internet, Wi-Fi and advanced voice services.

“The biggest difference we notice is the speed: We now are able to send, receive and download large files – like architectural blueprint drawings for new construction projects and bid specifications manuals –quickly, and that is a significant improvement over our previous provider,” said Tarina Thomas, CFO and office manager of Coastal Construction Group, Inc. on Commerce Street. “In the past, we would split these large files into several smaller attachments and send in multiple messages. Now that our bandwidth has increased, we are delivering the information quicker and cherishing the amount of time that we’re saving.”

“I applaud Comcast Business for investing in our area and expanding their services in Aberdeen, and thank them for their commitment to our community and economy,” said Aberdeen Mayor Erik Larson. “This investment will help grow our local economy by providing more businesses with access to a reliable, high-capacity network, which is an increasing necessity for businesses in the 21st century. Because of Comcast’s commitment to this community, we are confident that our Internet, data and voice needs will be met now and for many years to come.”

The Comcast Business expansion will begin on Port Industrial Road and extend to 1st Street, touching more than 30 buildings and affecting about three dozen businesses in the footprint. The project, which takes place in a square half-mile light industrial area, contains about 1.2 miles of roadway. The expansion cost about $60,000 and impacts a wide range of industrial companies in the area including fueling, trucking, steel, manufacturing, and electrical organizations.

“In the past, we’ve seen cities at an economic disadvantage struggle to find resources to help their local businesses be successful.” said Matt Fassnacht, vice president of Comcast Business for Washington. “We are proud to invest in cities like Aberdeen and to provide network-based services that local businesses need to help them use the latest technology and flourish.”

Comcast Business serves schools, businesses, hospitals and other organizations that require large amounts of bandwidth, are looking to link multiple locations or branch locations, or that plan to connect their offices to a third-party data center. Services offered include:

  • Ethernet Private Line: point-to-point connectivity between two customer sites for bandwidth-intensive applications.
  • Ethernet Virtual Private Line: point-to-multipoint connection to enable customers to tailor bandwidth, performance characteristics, and cost.
