Someone kicked in Michelle’s door … and was greeted by the blaring alarm of XFINITY home.

Michelle Becker is the internal communications manager for Comcast in Washington … and now an extra-satisfied XFINITY Home customer. Here is her story:

When I had the XFINITY Home security system installed over a year ago, I thought about how exciting it was to turn my system off and on from my phone. I thought about how exciting it was to assign out individual alarm codes to trusted family members. I thought about how exciting it was that I could see, with a few clicks, when the front door was last opened.

What I didn’t think about was how exciting it would be to have someone break into my house, set off the alarm and require the help of Edmonds police. However, that’s exactly what happened late last week. I’m happy to say that due to my XFINITY Home system, this story has a happy ending.

It all began when I received a call on my cell phone from a number I didn’t recognize. When the person on the other end said they were from the XFINITY Home monitoring station, my immediate reaction was panic. Our front door was open, and our alarm had been triggered … their question was, did they want us to send the police? YES! As I rushed to my Edmonds home, I pictured my camera sitting in plain sight, with pictures of my children still to be uploaded.

“Please, remove the memory card and just take the camera,” I thought to myself, knowing that’s not ever what happens.

As I mentioned, this story had a happy ending. By the time I arrived, police had already searched the house and determined it was safe to enter. Our door had clearly been kicked in, as is evident by the bent deadbolt and the busted door trim you can see if you look closely at the picture above. Nothing was taken. I can only speculate that after kicking in the door, the blaring alarm of our XFINITY Home system must have scared the intruder off. There was my camera sitting safely right where I had left it, in plain sight.

While this is not what you expect to happen when you get a security system installed, it is after all, what it’s there for. I’m happy that we know how well it works, but I sincerely hope I don’t get to test it out again.
